Three years ago, Marshall was a young man in deep financial trouble, living in an America of the not-too-distant future, a time when students and other young men who owe a debt they cannot pay are “rented out” to rich men for their sadistic pleasure. Since he was repeatedly tortured and sexually humiliated to pay off his debts, Marshall, now 24, has gotten his life together, staying fit and holding down a job. But when we spot him, jogging downtown, looking good, we want him. We make a few phone calls and suddenly an old debt is discovered and Marshall must find $10,000 immediately or pay the old-fashioned way – with pain, lots of pain.
